Who's Teaching

Joyce Yost Ulrich

was originally a professional dancer, spending over ten years performing with the American Ballet Theatre II followed by Houston Ballet. She was introduced to Pilates at Houston Ballet in 1985, and took advantage of the amazing technique to rehabilitate from injury, returning to dance strong and balanced and prepared. She is a Pilates Method Alliance Gold Standard Certified Teacher and graduate of The Pilates Center of Boulder's Masters Program as well as Centre for Spatial Medicine and CPM Education Qualified.

Joyce is faculty for Centre for Spatial Medicine and CPM Education. She teaches both professional and personal development workshops as well as the Neuromyo Fascial Pilates Teacher Training, using current research on the fascia and its unique characteristics to work more effectively with the body.

She has been teaching Pilates and furthering her own personal education about the body since 1998. Jo is also a practitioner of Yamuna® Body Rolling, a myofascial release technique practiced with a series of small balls. She has used YBR® to complement her Pilates work since 2001. Yamuna®'s Face work alleviates headaches, TMJ, and sinus pain. A combination of Pilates and Yamuna® footwork through Jo's guidance has been successful in alleviating foot issues.

In addition to teaching Pilates at Houston Ballet, Jo introduced Yamuna Body Rolling to Houston in 2001 and it is now an integral part of the Houston Ballet Academy's Summer Intensive Program as well as an integral part of the injury prevention program for the professional company.

Not only did she bring YBR to the Houston Ballet and the Houston area, she has also done the same with the Rossiter System, a truly remarkable technique aimed at pain relief, for which she is now an instructor. She has helped bring twenty more Rossiter Coaches into the Houston area with plans for more trainings in the coming year.

Zach Biegun

My curiosity about the mind/body connection and my desire to learn more led me through multiple trainings and schools of movement and meditation, but of those schools, Karin Locher and the faculty teachers at The Centre For Spatial Medicine were the most influential. Not only did they teach me to understand human anatomy and physical structure the way I always wanted to--but they offered me the tools to see the two way street between mind and body more clearly and continue learning from that connection--in 2018 I proudly joined The Centre For Spatial Medicine as a faculty teacher. When teaching, I’m most interested in what matters to each of my students and how I can help them along that path. I explain how and why so that they can understand their anatomy and how to think about it more clearly to create a change. I aim to help each student take that awareness with them so they can effectively integrate our work into their everyday lives.
